Ioannideia 2015 Days 5 – 7

With the completion of the 1st International Optimist Regatta, Ioannideia moved on Friday afternoon, September 11th 2015 with opening ceremony of the International Offshore Regatta and the Skippers’ Meeting at Limassol Marina, partner throughout the years at this event.  Taking place at Limassol Marina Yacht Club with the impressive presence of Batukinio, making their entrance to the event, another record breaking day with participants entries exceeding every other year in the past, reaching 38.  Great night with everyone getting together and enjoying every minute of what seems to be the biggest Offshore event of the island.

Saturday, September 12, 2015, and the morning completion of Aquathlon National Championship is another great success.  With Ioannideia Organizers adding another excitement to the week’s activities and in cooperation with Cyprus Triathlon Association, this year Aquathlon National Championship was placed under the umbrella of Ioannideia 2015.

Immediadely following the completion of Aquathlon we were just about ready for the 1st of two Offshore short in-shore races.  1st start around 11:30 after a short 30 minute delay due to lack of wind, but the breeze didn’t take long to come.  Light to medium wind made possible the completion of the 2 races with a beach party and live music for all participants, following that.

Record breaking numbers for all Open Sea Marathons on Sunday morning.  With swimming closing to 100 participants, all 3 events -Open Sea Swimming, Canoe/Kayak and Rowing – were completed by 10:30am giving as the opportunity to start on time the main race, Andreas Ioannides Trophy Race.  Defending Winner, Mr. Akis Antoniou and his jewel Spirit of Galatea gave it all to defend his title, but the strong MAVERICK was the surprise of the day winning the precious prize.

Finally the event came to an end with the closing ceremony, the Offshore Awards, and the formal dinner.  A great performance of Vassiliki X’Adamou and Michalis X’Michael with the presence of hundreds of people, the Minister of Defense Mr. Christoforos Fokaides closed the curtain of IOANNIDEIA 2015, but at the same time initiated the planning of IOANNIDEIA 2016.
