Ioannideia 2016 Days of Offshore

With the completion of the 2nd International Optimist Regatta, Ioannideia moved on Friday afternoon, September 9th 2016 with the Offshore Practice Race followed by the opening ceremony of the 4th International Offshore Regatta and the Skippers’ Meeting at Limassol Marina, partner throughout the years at this event.  Taking place at Limassol Marina Yacht Club with the impressive presence of Batukinio, making their entrance to the event, another record breaking day with participants entries exceeding every other year in the past, reaching 47.  Great night with everyone getting together and enjoying every minute of what seems to be the biggest Offshore event of the island.

Saturday, September 10, 2016, and after no wind at the scheduled start time the 1st of two Offshore short in-shore races started around 14:30.  Light to medium wind made possible the completion of the 2 races with a beach party and live music for all participants, following that.

Record breaking numbers for all Open Sea Marathons on Sunday morning.  With swimming closing to 100 participants, all 3 events -Open Sea Swimming, Canoe/Kayak and Rowing – were completed by 10:30am giving as the opportunity to start on time the main race, Andreas Ioannides Trophy Race.  With the wind picking up around 13:30, IronFX after leading in the standings for the two Saturday’s Races, lived up to the expectations and win it all.  1st in its Class, 1st in Ioannideia Overall, 1st in Andreas Ioannides Trophy Race and 1st on the 1st ORC Challenge Trophy.

Finally the event came to an end with the closing ceremony, the Offshore Awards, and a live performance of Yiannis Vardis and Giorgos Lianos with the presence of hundreds of people, the Minister of Defense Mr. Christoforos Fokaides closed the curtain of IOANNIDEIA 2016, but at the same time initiated the planning of IOANNIDEIA 2017.
